National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) applicants

We accept a limited number of applicants with foreign law degrees who wish to attend the Faculty of Law to fulfill requirements of the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA). It's rare for us to admit applicants to the entire first-year program.
Application deadlines
Applications for NCA positions commencing in September are due by April 30. Where appropriate, the Faculty may consider applications for entry in January of the Winter Session or May of the Summer Session.
Applicant types
We will consider applicants who have a Canadian Civil Law degree or credentials in law from universities outside of Canada. You'll need to arrange to have your academic record evaluated by the NCA before applying to UVic Law.
NCA Certificates of Qualification
The National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) is responsible for granting Certificates of Accreditation, which are recognized by various Canadian law societies for admission to the Bar. Decisions of the NCA regarding requirements for this certificate do not guarantee admission to UVic Law. Admission to the Faculty of Law is competitive and subject to space availability. Information about the Certificate of Qualification program may be obtained by contacting the National Committee on Accreditation.
English language requirement
The University of Victoria requires applicants whose first language is not English to submit proof of English proficiency by one of the following means:
- Completion of three years of post-secondary education in which the primary language of instruction was English.
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of 100 or higher on the Internet-based test (iBT), with no less than 25 on each of the individual components, or a score of 600 (out of a possible 677 points) on the paper-based test.
Transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by a notarized English translation.
