Fees
Effective May 1, 2012 current LL.M. program tuition fees are:
- Domestic—$1,716.74
per term. Minimum program fee $5,150.22 (3 terms)
- International—$2,042.76
per term. Minimum program fee $6,128.28 (3 terms)
If
a student takes additional terms to complete, the fees per term
will be the same as above for up to two additional terms, and
re-registration fees of $681.84 (domestic) or $813.36 (international)
apply for any additional terms.
Effective May 1, 2011 current Ph.D. program tuition fees are:
- Domestic—$1,716.74
per term. Minimum program fee $8,583.70 (5 terms)
- International—$2,042.76
per term. Minimum program fee $10,213.80 (5 terms)
If
a student takes additional terms to complete, the fees per term
will be the same as above for up to two and a half additional
terms, and re-registration fees of $681.84 (domestic) or $813.36 (international)
apply for any additional terms.
Effective Sept 1, 2011 other mandatory fees are:
- Athletics/Recreation—per term (on-campus only)—$76.00
- U-Pass Bus Pass—per term
(on-campus only)—$78.50
- Graduate Students' Society—per term—$56.76
- Graduate Students' Society
Extended Health Care Plan—per year (single coverage)—$328.00
- Dental
Care Plan—per year (single coverage)—$214.00
Please note: all fees are subject to change.
To opt out of one or both of the above Extended Health and Dental Plans,
you must provide proof of your equivalent alternative health and/or
dental coverage. Contact the Graduate Students' Society (GSS) for more information.
You may pay your fees by personal cheque, bank draft, money order,
or travellers cheques (the University will not take credit cards).
Either mail in your payment to Accounting Services, University
of Victoria, PO Box 3040 STN CSC, Victoria, BC, V8W 3N7, with your
student number written on the cheque to ensure it is correctly credited,
or pay in person at the Cashier's counter, Accounting Services,
Administrative Services Building, B Wing.
Awards
Scholarships
Significant resources for scholarships are allocated through the
admissions process. For further information please contact the Graduate
Assistant.
The following financial support (from either UVic Fellowships or Law Foundation of British Columbia Scholarships) is available to Law graduate students:
Students may not hold another major award (e.g. SSHRC) in conjunction with a Fellowship.
These awards are highly competitive, and eligibility is based on academic performance.
There are several other fellowships and scholarships at the University of Victoria which may be applied for after admission to the program.
Graduate students in Law are encouraged to apply for grants and fellowships from other institutions and agencies including the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (Ottawa), Commonwealth Scholarships, etc.

Bursaries
Bursaries are non-repayable awards based on financial need and reasonable academic standing. They are available both for graduate students entering UVic and those already attending the university.
Bursary applications and eligibility information are available from the Students Awards and Financial Aid website. Application deadlines are October 15 for the winter session (September-April), and June 1 for the summer session (May-August).
To be eligible for a graduate bursary, students must:
- be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada
- be receiving the maximum student loans available for their period of study
- attach a copy of all pages of their provincial student loan assessment to the bursary application
- if their Canada student loan funding is from outside BC they will need to complete the budget section of the bursary application
- meet the definition of full time status as outlined in the Faculty of Graduate Studies section of the UVic Calendar
