The Community at UVic Law

Carrels, Lockers, and Study Area

The graduate student area is on the mezzanine of the second floor of the Diana M. Priestly Law Library.

This area includes six single-use carrels for Ph.D. students and open carrels for up to 18 LL.M. students.  Three additional single-use carrels for Ph.D. students are available on the second floor. There is also a small meeting room on the mezzanine designated specifically for graduate student use.

The single-use Ph.D. carrels have doors that lock and the open LL.M. carrels have separately keyed drawers.  Students will be given keys to their particular carrel or set of drawers so that books, papers, files, and personal effects can be stored securely on a permanent basis.

Photocopying and Copy Cards

The Law Library has two photocopiers available for use by students.  Photocopiers are also available in the McPherson Library. These copiers accept only copy cards, which can be purchased at a cost of one dollar at the copy card vending machine in the main floor copy room. Any dollar amount can be put on these cards. Copying can also be done inexpensively at ZAP! located in the Student Union Building (by the bus terminus).

Printing

Computers in the Law Library are configured to submit print jobs to shared network laser printers in the Law Library and on the 2nd floor (Room 266). Printing requires a UVic Netlink ID and a Law Library printing account. Printing costs 7 cents per page for black and white or 40 cents per page for colour. Double-sided printing is available. Value can be added to your printing account during Law Library hours, until 30 minutes prior to closing. You need to provide staff with your Netlink ID and cash or a cheque.

For printing from a laptop, visit Wireless Printing.

Scanning

A scanner is available in the computer lab free of charge. Scans may be saved as images or PDFs in black and white or colour.
