1. What intramural sports are offered in the fall term and how do I sign up?
The law school has a very active intramural sports program. Each fall we field teams in volleyball, ultimate, ice hockey, soccer, ball hockey, roller hockey, basketball, etc. Often the interest from law students is high enough that we are able to field multiple teams at varying skill levels.
During the first week of classes sign up sheets for all activities will be posted in the student locker area. Regularly scheduled games usually begin in the third week of September.
Students also participate in many sports activities outside the intramural program. For example, students often get together for a game of squash or indoor tennis, or a game of frisbee golf. To find out about frisbee golf, or other activities, contact the Law Students' Society (LSS) Sports Representative.
2. How about in the spring and summer terms?
Intramurals that begin in the fall term usually continue through the spring term, although there will be a fresh sign up list posted for each sport in the student locker area in early January. Games usually begin around the third week in January.
The are no regularly scheduled intramural activities at the university during the summer term.
3. What does it cost to become involved in intramurals?
There is no cost to sign up for any of the intramural programs. Participation fees for all law students are picked up by the Law Students' Society (LSS).
4. How good do I have to be to play on a team?
Our primary goal is recreational play and no experience is necessary. We do, however, field competitive teams in sports where there is the demand for them.
5. Is there someone at the law school in charge of the intramural program?
Yes. Each year, a student sports representative is elected to the Law Students' Society (LSS) by students. The current sports representative and other members of the LSS executive can be contacted through the LSS website.
6. Are game times available online?
Yes. Please see the LSS website at the LSS Events icon.
7. Does the law school or the university provide sports equipment rentals?
All goalie equipment for the Law Lords ice hockey teams is available through the LSS at no charge. Often students will have extra sports equipment available for loan. Plans are underway to create an equipment loan service through the LSS for other sports activities. Please ask the sports representative about the availability of equipment you're interested in borrowing.
The University's outdoor club has a good selection of camping equipment available for rent throughout the year.
Good used sports equipment can also be purchased at Sports Traders in downtown Victoria.
8. What recreational facilities are available on or near campus?
Many recreational facilities are located near campus. For information please click here.
